The University of Manchester is home to more than 200 students from Indonesia, making it one of the largest Indonesian student communities in the UK. This includes PPI GM – a large student society from students from Indonesia who organise various events and cultural celebrations throughout the year.
We are proud to be a popular choice for sponsored students, including LPDP, and also offer generous scholarships for self-funded students.
91Ö±²¥ is a vibrant multicultural city. There are prayer rooms available across campus, a University Chaplaincy, and there are a number of mosques and churches located near the University and student areas.
Many of our restaurants serve a selection of halal-certified meals and sandwiches, and many front line staff have completed training on how to deliver halal food.

Entry requirements
General requirements
Applicants who have completed the national High School curriculum (SMA3) will be expected to complete a University-recognised foundation programme before joining an undergraduate course. This is due to differences in the education systems which means that students in the UK have usually completed one more year of study whilst at school.
University of Manchester Integrated Foundation Years
We will consider applicants with an overall grade of 80% or higher, including a minimum of 90% if a specific subject is required. For further guidance please for your chosen course.

Our official partner, INTO 91Ö±²¥, is located next to our campus in the centre of the city of Manchester. INTO offers several foundation programmes which have been developed specifically to prepare international students to study at a world-class university such as 91Ö±²¥.

Direct entry to The University of Manchester
We accept various qualifications for direct entry to year 1 of our undergraduate courses. This includes A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate. You can find the full entry requirements on our course profiles and advice on applying to the University.
Students who have completed an S1 of four years duration can be considered for admission onto a master's degree. Most courses typically require a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4) although attention is also given to quality and reputation of the university where you have studied.
Some courses may also have other requirements such as professional experience so it is important to read the . Further guidance on can be found by following the link.
Students who have an S2 can be considered for a PhD programme. In the UK, these typically last for between 3 and 4 years. Applicants are typically expected to have strong academic grades and some research experience. However, academic departments sometimes have different entry requirements, so it is important to check the individual programme information.

English language requirements
All applicants to the University (from the UK and overseas) are required to show evidence of English language proficiency.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires that every student from outside the UK and the EU must show evidence of a minimum level of English language in order to be granted a student route visa to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level. This level is often called the ‘B2 level’.
Additionally, our individual Schools may ask for specific English language proficiency levels that are necessary for their academic programmes. In most cases, these requirements are likely to be higher than the B2 level. Further information about our English language policy, including a list of some of the English language qualifications we accept, can be found .
Some Schools ask that the appropriate score has been met before you apply for a course, while others give conditional offers subject to applicants achieving our general entry requirement level of English language proficiency before starting the course.
Under certain circumstances, the University may consider IGCSE/O-level English, or International Baccalaureate Language (English) or Language and Literature (English) at high grades as a recognised English language qualification.

Please note that this is general information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.
Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.

Global Futures Scholarships 2026
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 300 awards to international students starting their studies in September 2026. The total value of scholarships offered will be more than £6 million and are open to students applying for undergraduate and master’s degrees.
Undergraduate awards
We're proud to offer more than 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of up to £30,000 (£10,000 per year over three years) to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Global Futures Scholarships for South East Asia are open to applicants domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Please note: the application form will be made available once you've applied for an eligible course and received an offer.
Each award comprises £10,000 for the first year of study with a further £10,000 in the second and third years. Continuation of the award is conditional on attainment of 60% in final exams and assessments each year. Scholarships will be awarded as a discount on published international tuition fees.
You must be taking one of the following qualifications:
- A-level
- IBDP
- Singapore Integrated Programme
- STPM (Malaysia)
- UEC (Malaysia)
- Indian Standard XII
- Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted and achieved grades, and your online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we'll try to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.
Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
To be considered as domiciled, you must have predominantly lived there during the last three years.
You must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2026 and have, or be working towards, one of the following qualifications:
- A-Levels (including international A-Levels)
- Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
- IB Diploma
- Integrated Programme (Singapore)
- STPM (Malaysia)
- UEC (Malaysia)
- Indian Standard XII (when taken in an eligible South East Asian country)
You must have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time course at 91Ö±²¥ and submit an online scholarship application form by 21 April 2026.
Applications will be assessed on any previous exams, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
You must be self-funded (not sponsored).
You must have selected The University of Manchester as your 'Firm' UCAS choice by 29 May 2026.
The application form will be emailed to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made. Offers will be made by 22 May 2026, and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions below.
Not eligible
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year.
- Applicants who've previously studied at a higher education institution or high school in the UK.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes.

Master’s awards
We're proud to offer more than 200 merit-based master’s scholarships to prospective international students from a range of countries across the globe.
The South East Asia scholarships are worth £10,000 and will be awarded as a discount on the published overseas tuition fees.
The awards are open to applicants domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam; in addition to the other eligibility criteria outlined in the full terms and conditions.
These scholarships of £10,000 will be awarded based on academic excellence and the quality of your online application form.
Scholarships will be awarded as a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
- To be considered as domiciled, you must have predominantly lived there during the last three years.
- You must hold an unconditional or conditional offer to study a full-time, on-campus master’s course at The University of Manchester starting in September 2026; and submit an online scholarship application form by 30 April 2026. The form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- You'll be considered based on academic merit and the quality of your scholarship application, but we'll try to achieve a balance by gender, domicile and course in the allocation of the awards.
- You must be self-funded (not sponsored).
Not eligible
- Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees.
- Some ‘Master’s by Research’ courses are also ineligible (see terms and conditions below).
- Applicants who've studied a bachelor’s degree outside of the eligible countries in South East Asia.
- Blended, part-time and distance learning programmes (including programmes hosted by one of The University of Manchester’s Global Centres).
