鈥榞rasp, grasp鈥� Exhibition Launch
A new digital artwork exploring the life stories of Buddhist communities.
The University of Manchester and the Fear and Belonging in Minority Buddhist Communities Research Project Team invite you to a launch event for 鈥榞rasp, grasp鈥� by Sian Fan, with an artist Q&A led by Chris Wright, former Executive Director of FutureEverything.

鈥�grasp, grasp鈥� is a digital artwork which draws on the anonymised life stories of members of two different Buddhist communities, collected by University of Manchester academics Erica Baffelli and Jane Caple.
The work is a web-based experience filled with emotive photography and soundscapes, which traverses multiple pathways. It changes shape, operating in different sequences and moving in different directions, inviting viewers to reflect on the ephemerality of emotions.
Without attempting to pin it down, the work hopes to assert the complicated beauty of human experience. It seeks to form a blurry vision of lives lived, that, with your gaze soft and your grip gentle, you can find yourself enveloped within.
Doors at the venue will open at 6.30pm, with the live stream beginning online at 7pm. The artist presentation will be followed by a drinks reception for guests attending in person.
Sian Fan is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist. Her work combines movement, the body and technology to explore embodiment, identity, and human experience in the digital age. She is particularly interested in popularised depictions of Asiatic bodies in movies, anime and video games; in folkloric stories both modern and traditional; and in the thresholds of human identity where one exists as both and neither at the same time.
