The Institute for Cultural Practices (ICP) at The University of Manchester’s School of Arts, Languages and Cultures has recently launched its new magazine, Cultural Practice.
The new magazine features critical reflective pieces in arts management, arts practice, cultural policy, heritage studies and museology. It also shares news on research, teaching and cultural engagement work by staff and students at the Department of Art History and Cultural Practices.
In Spring and Summer 2020, Cultural Practice is publishing critical reflections related to issues and challenges that COVID-19 and the lockdown present for arts and culture in the UK and abroad. The first few contributions include pieces by Dr Kostas Arvanitis on what collecting spontaneous memorials after traumatic events, such as terrorist attacks, can tell us about collecting (experiences of) COVID-19 and life under lockdown; Dr Abigail Gilmore on how the COVID-19 crisis is shaping cultural participation and the practising of public space in urban parks; and ICP PhD student Frances Liddell on what researchers can do to help the museum sector during COVID-19.
Dr Arvantinis said: "The Institute for Cultural Practices (ICP) provides a platform for postgraduate study, continuing professional development, research and knowledge exchange with cultural and heritage professionals in the UK and abroad. Our new magazine aims to offer a space for critical reflections by ICP staff, students, alumni and partners on current issues in the arts, cultural and heritage sector, starting with the complex challenges that COVID-19 and the lockdown present for arts and culture"
